Family Programs at The Museum of Modern Art introduce children and adults to the richly varied world of modern and contemporary art through gallery conversations, art workshops, conversations with contemporary artists, film screenings, activity guides, and websites.

Programs provide an approach to looking at and talking about art that enable people of all ages and all levels of experience to enjoy art together. Gallery Conversations

Lively interactive discussions in the Museum's galleries offer families with children ages four to fourteen a range of opportunities to explore the artwork of the Museum's collection and special exhibitions. Current gallery talks include:

Tours for Fours, a morning drop-in program specifically designed for four-year-olds and their parents/caregivers. Families are introduced to painting, sculpture, photography, works on paper, and more through interactive gallery activities and discussions.

A Closer Look for Kids, a morning drop-in program for children ages five to ten and their parents/caregivers. Families explore artworks in the Museum's collection and special exhibitions through theme-based discussions and gallery activities. A new topic is explored each month.

Tours for Tweens, a series specifically designed for families with eleven- to fourteen-year-olds. Kids and adults engage in activities, share ideas, and exchange opinions about modern and contemporary artwork. Advance registration is required.

Art Workshops

Families explore artworks in MoMA's collection and special exhibitions, then create their own art in a hands-on workshop. Workshops are available for children ages four to fourteen and their parents/caregivers. Ages vary by workshop.

Families are given the opportunity to chat informally with contemporary artists about their inspirations and art-making techniques.

Family Films

Parents/caregivers and children can enjoy classic live-action and animated short films, engaging discussions with a Museum educator, and suggestions for follow-up activities in the Museum's galleries. Suggested ages vary by screening.

Families with children ages eleven to fourteen are introduced to silver-screen classics and cutting-edge contemporary films.

Family Activity Guide

A free publication, the Family Activity Guide offers activities and ideas for looking at the collection and special exhibitions. Inside the guide, families will find questions for guided looking, activities, and suggestions for further exploration. Guides are available at the lobby information desk, on the second, third, fourth, and fifth floors, and at the Education and Family Information Desk (near Cafe 2). Suggested ages vary by guide.

MoMA Audio: Modern Kids

Modern Kids is an audio program specially designed for families with young children. The program provides an interactive exploration of the collection with music, poetry, sound effects, and interesting characters introducing child-friendly works of art. Adults can listen along with the kids tour or access an adult tour on the same listening devices. A special Modern Kids map makes it fun and easy for families to navigate the Museum's collection.

Destination: Modern Art
An Intergalactic Journey to MoMA and P.S.1

Travel to MoMA with an alien creature! "Listen" to a painting or create an online collage. Children ages five to eight can explore paintings, sculptures, and installations through online activities and hands-on projects at Destination: Modern Art.

Shape Lab
